Why study this course?

This is a vocational course which means you will learn skills and concepts which are linked to working in the health, social care and early year’s industry. The qualification is recognised by employers and you can progress onto level 3 courses.

You will learn about how as humans we function and develop over our lifetime, effects of diet and culture, and how people’s needs are met within health and social care settings.

This is the course for you if you are organised and complete your work in class and at home.

What topics/skills will I learn?

There are:

2 Core Units

Essential values of care – examination

Communication and working with individuals – assignment

2 Optional Units

Understanding life stages – assignment

Understanding body systems and disorders – assignment

How will I be assessed?

The course is centre-assessed and one unit is externally assessed. You will be awarded a Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*.

You will be assessed by a series of assignments and an examination.

Where can this course lead to after Key Stage 4?

As well as this course leading into studying level 3 Health and Social/Sociology/Psychology it can lead into any academic or vocational courses. With further training or study, you can go into careers such as nursing, social work and residential care management. If you want to get a job straight away you could work and train in:

  • Registered care homes
  • Hospitals and primary care
  • Nursing homes
  • Health centres
