Key Stage 3

This Key Stage includes Years 7, 8 and 9

Key Stage 3 Curriculum

We provide a broad and balanced curriculum to meet the needs of 11-14 year olds at Key Stage 3.  Pupils build on their learning from Primary School and acquire knowledge, skills and experience through traditional academic subjects, together with a wide range of extra-curricular activities, clubs, trips and visits.

Over three years pupils will study:

Design & Technology
Modern Foreign Languages
Art & Design
Physical Education
Religious Education
Personal Development
Careers Education including – Awareness of Subject Areas, Communication Skills, School Subjects and Careers, Interests, Skills, Personality Styles and Discovering Learning Pathways

Pupils are encouraged to become independent enquirers, creative thinkers and reflective learners.  Pupils will work independently, in groups and in whole class situations.  Pupils will gain the confidence to be able to make effective participation and contribution in different learning situations.  Homework extends learning and consolidates the work taking place in lessons.

  • Approximately 30 minutes per subject in Year 7
  • Approximately 30 minutes per subject in Year 8

We do not specify a particular day for a particular subject as we believe this allows greater flexibility within the teaching of a topic to set homework on the day when it is most appropriate for what has been learnt.

Information about GCSE options for students moving from Year 9 to Year 10  will be sent to parents after February Half Term
